Luft Wasser brings 34 Air-Cooled Porsches to Brevard, NC

The 7th Annual Luft Wasser Porsche Celebration in Brevard (North Carolina) held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, brought 34 air-cooled Porsches of every model and vintage to this growing event.  Luft (Air in German) Wasser (Water in German) was created to celebrate Porsches in the lovely mountain town of Brevard, North Carolina.

Luft Wasser is hosted by the Appalachian Region of the Porsche Club of America (PCA), and has grown each year from its start in 2018 to now feature over 200 Porsches on Broad Street in Brevard.  The special air-cooled display area this year brought the greatest number of air-cooled Porsches to the streets of Brevard since the show’s start.

Several air-cooled highlights this year included:

  • A one-of-a-kind Singer 911, rarely seen in the wild

  • A concours 1958 Meissen Blue 356A Speedster that has crossed the country several times

  • An all-original Irish Green 912 that could win any concours in the country

  • A Raspberry Red 964 America Roadster, one of 250 Roadsters that exist and maybe only one of two in this color

  • Wide-body Prussian Blue Carrera 3.2 Targa, one of 42 produced

The only air-cooled model missing was the 914 though two were registered but were no-shows due to family and mechanical circumstances.  Hopefully we will see a 914 or two on the streets of Brevard for the 2025 edition of Luft Wasser.

The air-cooled Porsches and people are fun, but the real benefit is the contribution made to Brevard in the form of fundraising for The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County.  A final tally of the funds raised is not available yet, but every dollar contributed by PCA members will go to helping to develop youth today for their successful future within the community. The event traditionally raises over $10,000 each year for the Boys & Girls Club.

Luft Wasser is not just a car show as Organizer of the show, Appalachian Region President and Air Brigade Commander Jim Moore believes driving your air-cooled Porsche is important so the day starts with driving together in one of six driving tours to Brevard.

Porsche Driving Tours Occur with Luft Wasser

The six tours from Asheville (via NC-151 and the Blue Ridge Parkway), Hendersonville, Waynesville, Landrum, SC and Johnson City, TN were on the road by 8:00 a.m. and started to arrive in Brevard by 9:00 a.m.  The arrivals are tightly coordinated to bring the 141 Porsches driving in tours to the city along with the 65-Porsche parade into the display area at staggered times to smoothly stage the arrivals for maximum effect and enjoyment of the visitors.

This year was the first year that all the air-cooled Porsches were grouped together in one special display area on the north end of Broad Street. As you walked the line of Porsches down Broad Street there were vendor tents from Porsche Asheville, K&M Collision, Prescott Auto Reserve, IR Auto, Hagerty Insurance and The Finish Line.

In the parking lot next to Vendor Row, visitors were treated to a special display of Track Car-focused Porsches including GT3 RS’s, GT4 RS’s, GT3’s, GT4’s, and Caymans.  This flamboyant Porsches shared the space with Pisgah Bakehouse, one of Brevard’s premier bakeries and pizza restaurants.  Over 75 wood-fired pizzas were cooked on site to serve the over 750 visitors to the show.  For fare other than pizzas, visitors sampled one of the many fine restaurants of Brevard.

As a visitor continued down the long row of Caymans, Boxsters, 911’s and Panameras on display one came to the Transaxle Porsche display featuring 944’s, 928’s, 969’s and 924’s.  Organizers claim this to be the largest gathering of Transaxle Porsches outside the regular specialized gatherings.

The Luft Wasser Porsche Celebration occurs the last weekend of April each year with registration opening on March 15 each year.  There is a fee to participate ($40) with the net proceeds being contributed to The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County.

See you in Brevard in 2025!
