The Blu Goblin Porsche 964 Receives DMV Branding

It was good news from the North Carolina DMV: BluGobln was available as a license plate for the Blu Goblin 964.  The “e” of blue and the "i" in Goblin are dropped to meet the 8-letter requirement in North Carolina.

If you remember, when I purchased the Cobalt Blue 1993 Porsche 964 I researched the meaning of Cobalt Blue.  The name/word Cobalt comes from the German miners who discovered Cobalt when searching for Silver and felt the Mine Goblins (Kobolde) had placed this element in the mine as a trick. Cobalt is the English interpretation of Kobolde.

The defining element of this Porsche 964 is its Cobalt Blue exterior so I liked the idea of capitalizing on the meaning of the word and naming this car The Blu Goblin 964.  To take the branding further a logo was developed to drive under the moniker of Goblin Motorsports – Driving the Curves™.

The exterior of the car in Cobalt Blue was striking, but the all-black interior seemed dark and foreboding (like a mine) so it was decided to brighten it up with pops of Cobalt Blue in the interior.  The first blue to be added was changing out the seat belts.  Safety Restore in Massachusetts offered Cobalt Blue belts and a 48-hour turn-around service on the belts.  They even switch over the manufacturer’s safety tags to retain originality.

The next step was to add floor mats with pops of blue.  Lloyd Mats offers custom embroidery and their Medium Blue thread is not far off in matching the Cobalt Blue belts and exterior. The Blu Goblin branding was carried through onto the front floor mats while I went with Air Brigade on the mat for the rear parcel shelf (actually the folded down rear seats).

The final touch of blue was the addition of a blue-stitched shift boot with a MOMO knob to replace the one-piece unit that is stock to the car.  Redline Goods provides a variety of leather goods for Porsches and other brands with a variety of stitching options.

The Blu Goblin has all the blue it needs and the look is complete.
