A $50,000 Porsche 914 - Why is it Worth a $20,000 Premium?

A 1976 Porsche 914 2.0 liter in Ivory over black leatherette just hit a top selling price on Bring a Trailer (BaT) for stock Porsche 914’s of $51,360 after the buyer’s fee was added to the $48,914 sale price.

This 1976 commanded a premium close to $20,000 over the previous high sale of a stock 1973 Porsche 914 2.0 liter sale on BaT. In December 2019 a Delphi Green 1973 Porsche 914 2.0 was sold for $31,850 ($30,333 auction price plus the 5% buyer’s fee).

At first glance it appears to be odd results. The 1973 Porsche 914 2.0 liter is considered the 914 to have by collectors, though the 1976 is a final year car that is considered the most refined version of the Porsche 914. The two Porsche 914 listings along with several other 914’s that sold on BaT are below.

Air Brigade believes there were three reasons for the high sale of the 1976 Porsche 914 2.0 liter

  1. Low mileage: 36,000 original miles that is documented versus the 109,000 miles of the 1973.

  2. No issues, immaculate car: Stock, well presented 914 with a recent re-paint. Retains the Bosch D-jeteronic fuel injection.

  3. Well documented 914: Listing inclueds 500+ photos and running videos. Car comes with the window sticker, service records, dealership paperwork and ownership history.
