Glenn Patterson will be showing his award winning1959 Porsche 356 Coupe Outlaw1600 Normal. Air Brigade first saw this gorgeous 356 at the 2021 Porsche Parade in French Lick where it won First in Class for modified 356’s. It is a

Glen acquired this 356 over 20 years ago. It is a numbers matching car including all numbered body panels, other than the hood. After about a year of driving it, Glenn entered into a restoration project that stretched out for the next 15-years restoring it back to factory original in every detail.

In Glenn’s words: “It turned out to be a basket case after the paint was stripped (including a piece of a street sign used to patch the floor, etc. and lots of brazing). I spent a lot of time sourcing NOS parts, going to swap meets, etc. to find “restore-able” parts.

“There were a lot of “do-it-yourself” and a lot of “do-over work” on my part, but I had a lot of help in the end (Vic Skirmants, Victor Miles, Mike Riecken and Tracy Tichenor). When the COVID lock-down occurred, I needed something to do so I decided to make a mild “outlaw” out of it.”

The HR designation is Jim’s creation to signify a Hot Rod 911 in the Porsche model number vernacular. The definition of a Hot Rod according to Merriam-Webster is “An automobile rebuilt or modified for improved looks, high speed and fast acceleration.”

Jim’s 911HR is a true Hot Rod featuring a 1968 chassis with a 1969 911S 2.2-liter race-prepared engine and a 1970 911S 901 transmission. The door panels with their chrome vent windows are sourced from a 1965 911 as is the deck lid that features the split grille unique to 1965.

The interior has RS-style door cards and Scheel Model 100 sport seats MOMO Prototipo steering wheel. Interior details include Dual Heuer Lap Timers, a hand-crafter 917-style wood shift knob and a roll bar from a 1972 911 racecar.
