Porsche Four-Cylinder Love

George first joined Air Brigade after his Porsche 356 won People’s Choice with his red 1965 Porsche 356 SC in his class at the PCA Appalachian Adventure in 2019. George set up an online garage and drove his 356 SC in the season-ending Tshüss Rallye to say good-bye to the driving season.

I just heard from George the other day because he acquired a “new-to-him” 1973 Porsche 914 S. I questioned George about the “S” designation and he advised me that this was a short-lived model when the Porsche 914 was launched in 1973 with the new 2.0 liter engine. Dealers and Porsche purists howled about the “S’ designation so Porsche relented and changed the branding to Porsche 914 2.0. Very few ‘S’ designated 914’s exist because they were only produced between November 1972 and January 1973.

The 914 S was a fully loaded model with the larger engine. George’s beauty is Saturn Yellow with a black interior. The 2.0 engine now features Webbers in replace of the fuel injection and has a Pertronix ignition. According to George “it moves” and handles like it is on rails; in fact better than his 2003 996 Carrera. I also own a 914 2.0 in the collection so I can attest to these statements.
