Jerry was an early member of the Air Brigade and a proud original owner of a 1994 Porsche 964 Turbo 3.6 in Midnight Blue over a beautiful grey linen leather interior.
Porsche first introduced a 964 Turbo 3.3-liter in 1990 as a successor to the infamous Porsche 930 Turbo. The Porsche 964 Turbo was not offered until January 1993. Sports Car Market prices the 3.6 with a value 20% higher than the 3.3-liter models, though both are highly desirable.
The original 3.3-liter turbo had a horsepower rating 320 hp versus the later 3.6-liter model’s rating of 360 hp. The base price of the Porsche 964 Turbo 3.6-liter was $99,000 and it is now easily double that price.
The Porsche 911 Turbo (type 964) had a wider body with flared wheel housings and featured a large wing on the rear. Two oval tailpipes emphasized the Turbo’s uniqueness. Exhaust gases only escaped through the left pipe when the boost-pressure control valve of the turbocharger was open.
To reduce internal and external noise levels, the engine and gearbox were mounted on hydro-mounts. These new engine mounts combined the acoustic isolation function of a conventional rubber mount with balance damping performance to ensure vibration isolation.
The Turbo 3.6 was produced for one year with only 1,437 units produced making it an instant collectible and classic among Porsche owners. Besides the limited production run, a Porsche 964 Turbo 3.6 was featured in the movie Bad Boys starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. The Porsche Turbo played a major role in the movie rising to further cult status among even non-Porsche aficionados.
Jerry purchased his 1994 Porsche 964 Turbo 3.6 new in Tennessee and has owned it ever since. It is modified with Fabspeed headers and select engine upgrades. A Bilstein suspension provides the handling as Jerry regularly drives the Tail of the Dragon. Otherwise the car is all original.
In 2019, after freshening the car, Jerry showed the car at the PCA Appalachian Adventure car show where it was awarded First in Class and Best of Show.
