Luftgekühlt Air-Cooled Porsche shows are known for their unique photographic settings and the American Tobacco Campus in Durham, North Carolina didn’t let visitors down. Air-Cooled Porsches were found in every corner of the campus under the towering Lucky Strike Smoke Stack and Water Tower. It made for a stunning display of these works of art.
Thousands flocked to the campus on Saturday, October 4, 2025 to view the hundreds of air-cooled Porsches artfully displayed by world-renowned Porsche photographer Jeff Zwart and Luftgekühlt founder and Porsche racer Patrick Long.
The show had every model of air-cooled Porsche from a 356 to a 914 and all series of 911’s and some of the greatest Porsche race cars in existence.

Luft 11 opened for early admission at 8:00 a.m. which was the time to be there for photos, merch and freebies. By the general admission opening at 10:00 a.m. the lines were already long for the merch and freebies and the crowds made for difficult people-free photos of the cars. The wait to enter the Luftgekühlt merchandise store was over an hour-long and by ten, the only items left were some t-shirts and hats.
The line to the Porsche give-away tent was long as they supplied posters of some of their famous ads such as the Turbo “Kills Bugs Fast” ad from the 80’s. Pirelli provided event posters which were also popular while Hagerty had commemorative pins.
The freebies and merchandise were Lucky Strike Extras, but the cars were the stars. There was a little bit of everything from all-original concours ready 356’s to rat rods and race cars.

What makes Luftgekühlt events so great is the discovery. You wander the venue never knowing what you’ll find tucked away. The American Tobacco Campus provided stunning indoor venues for the one-of-a-kind concours Porsches and the nooks and crannies that surprised you also with a one-of-a-kind Porsche. Personal favorites included Bobby Rahal’s 904, the Sunoco Porsche 917 that holds the world speed record with Mark Donohue piloting it around Talladega Speedway and a Fly Yellow RS America that I believe only three were made.

It is hard to pick a favorite of the show personally because there were so many great Porsches to view, but we will soon know what the visitors as a whole enjoyed the most because sponsor Hagerty Insurance had a online voting system in place for a People’s Choice Winner. The Hagerty Winner was a 1978 Cashmere Beige Porsche 911 SC.
In the meantime, here are photos of some of the favorites from the Air Brigade camera.
