Classic Porsches Dominate Porsche Club Concours
Air Brigade members and their air-cooled Porsches were in full force at the Appalachian Adventure PCA Concours held Auguest 17, 2019 at the Ridges Resort on Lake Chatuge in Georgia.
Ten members were present at the event with nine different classic Porsches including two Porsche 356’s, a 912, two early 911’s, three G-Series Carrera’s and a 964 Turbo.
Air Brigade member Jerry Mattox won Best of Show with his 1994 Porsche 964 Turbo 3.6 liter that he has owned since new.
The beautiful midnight blue over white interior went up against a field of 48 Porsches where the judges recognized the uniqueness of the vehicle from the standpoint of the low numbers produced, color and originality. It even features the original installed mobile phone from the era. Jerry and his 964 Turbo also won Best in Class in the highly competitive Specialty Class Nine consisting of modern Turbos, GT3’s, Boxster Spyders and GTS models.
New member George McMurtry brought his 1965 Ruby Red Porsche 356 SC and captured Group 1 that featured Porsche 912’s and 356’s. It was a tough class against a freshly restored 356, a beautiful 912 Soft Window Targa and a 912 Coupe that has several cross-country trips to its name.
The highly competitive Group 2 class for air-cooled Porsche 911’s included a Targa, a Anniversary Special Edition, a restored racer, a Beverly Hills Cabriolet, an original owner car and a special optioned 993. The winner in Class 2 was Charlie Hickey and his 1972 Emerald Green Porsche 911T Targa. Restored by Charlie several years ago, the green sparkled in the sun on the field by the water.
Second place went to TD King and his 1989 911 Carrera Special Edition, one of 250 silver anniversary models produced.
Air Brigade has now had two shows in a row and it is time to get back on the road.
We will be joining PCA on Thursday, September 12 for a drive to Clingman’s Dome. We’ll have a special group of air-cooled Air Brigade classic Porsches that the Commander will lead along with the PCA Porsches. The drive starts in Waynesville and will conclude in Bryson City. We’ll use the PCA-APR sign-up for this particular drive: http://aprpca.org/356B/index.php/events/appalachian-event/578-appalachian-meeting-190907
