RM Sotheby’s conducted the Saragga collection auction at their first ever Portugal auction. The star of the show was a 1931 Bentley 8-liter Tourer but the auction also featured 19 high quality Classic Porsches.

The 1973 Porsche Carrera RS 2.7 Touring was the star of the Porsches and one of the overall show stars. This desirable Signal Orange matching numbers RS sold for a staggering $749,682 countering the weak sales of ’73 RS’s recorded at the Monterey Auctions.

Other strong performers included a European 1992 Porsche Carrera RS in rare Rubystone Red that sold for $300,246, a Porsche 912 that sold for 50% over the high estimate, coming in at $94,460 and a as described driver 1986 Porsche Carrera 3.2 Cab. The strong Porsche prices at this show seem to be all attributed to the unique or desirable colors: Signal Orange, Rubystone Red and blacks.

The high sales were the two RS models while the low sales were the 1986 Carrera 3.2 Cab at $65,836 and the 1977 Porsche Carrera 3.0 of which only 896 left hand drive models were produced in 1977.

Unique Porsches from a model or color standpoint continue to be strong in the collector car market, The one weak point continues to be the 930 Turbos while we continue to see the 1989 911 Speedster continue to hit the auction block and selling for estimate. The Porsche 356 market continues strong for quality models. The G-Series models performed well at this RM Sotheby’s Auction. The question is: is this the next hot air-cooled Porsche or an aberration?
