Is the Porsche Carrera 3.2 the Quintessential Air-Cooled Porsche?
In a recent Bavarian Enthusiast TV YouTube Channel episode, Will Brooks discusses the five things he loves about his Porsche Carrera 3.2 and asks the question: “Is the Porsche Carrera 3.2 the quintessential air-cooled Porsche?” The Bavarian Enthusiast TV YouTube Channel episode is titled “Five Things I Love About my Porsche Carrera 3.2”
Bavarian Enthusiast TV Host and Creator Will Brooks and the Air Brigade met up at the recent Das Renn Treffen DRT2020 held in Miami to discuss the points raised in his Bavarian Enthusiast TV episode.
Will has five points about his Carrera 3.2 that he identifies when pondering this question.
The Interior: A 1986 G-Body Carrera has a very classic Porsche 911 look with in-your-face vertical gauges. What you need is right there, a analog tach with engine monitoring gauges to the left and right.
Porsche 915 Transmission: The “experts” all want the Porsche G-50 transmission in their Carrera 3.2 but Bavarian Enthusiast TV host Will Brooks takes the contrary view stating that he considers the Porsche 915 transmission as being a plus for the car as it requires effort and work to take the car to the next performance level. Will also owns a Porsche 993 with the G-50 transmission so he is able to compare to compare the two side-by-side. One air-cooled Porsche transmission provides smoothness and low effort while the other requires a driver to work the gears.
Specific Modifications to his Carrera 3.2: This point is specific to Will’s Carrera, but he really loves the specific modifications to his Porsche to improve the handling, looks and feel of the car. Will goes into detail in the episode on the specifics and how it impacts his impression of the car.
Enthusiast Community: It was appropriate that Will states the air-cooled Porsche enthusiast community as a plus for his Carrera since he was at one of the largest Porsche enthusiast gatherings in the Southeast discussing the topic with the leading air-cooled Porsche community Air Brigade Founder and Commander, Jim Moore about the topic of enthusiast support of the brand and model. As Will states: he has found a deep passion for the cars that are over and above the usual enthusiasts.
Porsche Exterior Design: The design and style is iconic; what’s not to love. Even non-enthusiasts know this is a Porsche, an iconic sports car when they see this body style.
So, what is your opinion: Is the Porsche Carrera 3.2 the quintessential air-cooled Porsche? Watch the Bavarian Enthusiast TV episode, “5 Things I love about my Porsche Carrera 3.2” to hear their answer and read Air Brigade’s future article answering the same question.
