Porsche 911 Weissach Edition

The Porsche 911SC Weissach Edition was produced in 1980 to honor the Porsche Motorsport Team based in Weissach, Germany. The original idea to produce this special model for the American market was to promote the Sonderwunschabtilung (Special Wishes) department that was established in 1978.

1980 Porsche 911SC Weissach Edition

The Porsche Weissach Edition Coupe is a limited edition model (Option Code M439) that was produced in only 400 copies, 200 in Sonderfarbre Schwarz Metallic (a special black new to the catalog) and 200 in Platinum Metallic. It wasn’t until the late 80’s that the special black metallic appeared again on the Porsche color board.

The other exterior appearance special items include a front chin spoiler and a rear whale tail similar to the one used on the turbo. However, due to the body configuration, the whale tail used on the Weissach Edition 911 is unique to this model. The wheels are also special 15” Fuchs painted in Platinum.

The most unique aspect of the Porsche 911 Weissach Edition is its exclusive interior. It is a three-one full leather interior featured in doric grey with red piping and black highlights. The red piping is the same red that can be found in the matching carpets. The perforated black leatherette ceiling adds an extra punch to the interior.

The options included with the 911 Weissach Edition include:

• Heated Power Mirrors

• Power Windows, sunroof and locks

• Passenger door mirror

• Electric external aerial

• Fog lights below the front bumper

• Air conditioning

• Cruise control

The Porsche 911 Weissach Edition Registry has 143 known survivors (61 in Black Metallic and 82 in Platinum Metallic). It is thought that only about 200 of the models still exist on the road. The car generally sells for $50,000 - $60,000 today.

Air Brigade has one member, Kim, with a 911 Weissach Edition. Kim bought his 911 Weissach at auction in 2017 and drives it regularly in Air Brigade tours. Kim’s 911 Weissach Edition is one of the Sonderfarbe Schwarz Metallic (Black Metallic) models.
