Modified Air-Cooled Porsches Were Winners at Barrett Jackson
Barrett-Jackson held its Scottsdale 2021 in late-March this year instead of during its normal January date. Most of the Air-Cooled Porsches crossing the auction block were modified Porsches with the surprise sale being a highly modified 1974 Porsche 914 1.8-liter selling for a near record high of $84,500.
The other surprise in Air Brigade’s opinion is the sale of a modified 1979 Porsche 930 Coupe commanding a price of $126,500. This model tends to be a collector car so it was surprising to see that the modifications did not hurt the price.
Barrett-Jackson tends to be a strong auction for Restomods and other modified-type cars and this held true with the Air-Cooled Porsches brought to market. The most notable sale within the Restomods was a 1973 Porsche 911T titled as a “Slinger”, playing off the Singer popularity that sold for $154,000.
The stock Air-Cooled Porsches sold for market correct prices with the top sale being the highly desirable 1996 993 Turbo that sold for $170,500.
