Air-Cooled Porsche Luftgekühlt 7 is planned for the East Coast
The air-cooled Porsche gathering, Luftgekühlt 7 is announcing that the 2020 event will be east coast based. The date is set for May 31, 2020. The exact location is yet to be announced. Full event information is to be revealed in the New Year.
Air Brigade attended Luftgekühlt 6 that was held at the Universal Studios backlot last May. A full report is available in the Air Brigade archives with a lot of photos of the over 300 air-cooled Porsches.
Even though the event this year will be a closer journey for Air Brigade it doesn’t look like the Commander will be there. My daughter gets married the day before so unless the event occurs in St Louis I will be out of luck. Hopefully an Air Brigade member or two can attend and provide a full report from a member’s perspective.
Based on previous years every Porsche site and news organization will attend and publish reports and hundreds of photos.
The highlight of Luftgekühlt in 2019 was the breadth of one of a kind Porsches starting with a beautiful Porsche 917 at the entry under the Theatre marquee. Across the street were three Singer 911s that provided the first opportunity to see these fabulous cars in person. They are everything that you imagined a $1 million Porsche 911 to be.
The great and varied versions of Porsche 911s and Porsche 356s were everywhere. What is really unique about the event is that they use the environment to feature and highlight the Classic Porsches. They peak out of doorways, shine on pedestals and are discovered down blind alleys as you wander the show.
In addition to my Porsche Carrera and 911 Turbo, I own a 1973 Porsche 914 2.0 so I was particularly excited to see an entire area of the Luftgekühlt show being devoted to 914s and 914-6s. Many of the race models that dominated sports car racing in the 1970s were displayed in front of a unique brick facade adding an element of art to the display of these “love them or hate them” Porsches.
As more details become available, Air Brigade will report them.
