Air-Cooled Porsche 911 Cab Prices Dip in 2023

An annual survey of air-cooled Porsche 911 Cab prices shows a dip in 2023 after solid gains in 2021 and 2022. The overall market seems to be going through a slight correction after the COVID-fueled buying of collector cars as buyers bought cars with their free time at home.

One such aficionado is Air Brigade member Jim Scott, an air-cooled Porsche 911 cab owner who started studying prices to understand what was happening in the market.  Jim went back to 2017 studying auction prices and other public data.  Prices had been on a steady climb with double digit gains in recent years until this past year.

Similar to the total air-cooled Porsche market, the 993 is commanding the highest prices, then descending down the range to the earlier models.  The first 911 cabriolet appeared in late-1982 as a 1983 SC model. 

Porsche 356 Cabs command prices stronger than their coupe counterparts

Porsche 911 prices have traditionally been stronger for coupes than the cabriolet models.  Prices for cabs are generally about 20% lower than the comparable coupe model.  This is the exact opposite of the Porsche 356 that the 911 replaced where cabs generally command an even higher than a 20% premium.

One theory is that the 911 was first introduced as a coupe and since a cab was not introduced until 18 years into the model line-up and it achieved its early racing success, the coupe became the iconic shape for a 911.
